Lagos State Collation Officer for the 2023 presidential election, Prof Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, has declared the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi as the winner of the presidential elections conducted in Lagos on Saturday, February 25.
Two days after the presidential elections in Lagos State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Tuesday, concluded the collation of the election results with Obi coasting home to victory.
Obi, won the election with 582, 454 votes to beat his closest rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who garnered 572,606 votes, while the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar came a distant third with 75,750 votes.
Announcing the results of the elections, Prof Oladiji, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta, (FUTA), gave the break down of the results as follows: A 3069, AA 498, AAC 1597, ADC 5789, ADP 2439, APC 572,606, APGA 2316, APM 709, APP 371, BP 1837, LP 582,454, NNPP 8442, NRM 609, PDP 75,750, PRP 1120, SDP 772, YPP 1109 and ZLP 9964.
She gave the number of valid votes as 1271451 and rejected votes as 64278, while the total number of votes cast stood at 1, 335,729. She said the number of registered voters was 7060195 as against the 6942885 that most people were bandying around. She aslo said that the number of accredited voters was 1,347,152
The results were announced in the presence of the representatives of the state commissioner of police, Director, Department of State Services (DSS), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), foreign and domestic election observers, political party agents as well as journalists from various print, broadcast and online media organisations.
Eleven out of the 18 agents representing various political parties signed the results sheet alongside the state Collation Officer. The parties that signed the results included A, APC, APGA, APM, APP, NNPP, NRM, PDP, YPP and ZLP.
In his concluding remarks, the Lagos Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), commended everybody and called for collaboration for future elections in the state. He said: “On behalf of the Commission, I thank you all for your efforts and patience to ensure the successful conclusion of the presidential election in the state. I call for your collaborations in future elections, particularly the gubernatorial elections coming up in a few days from now. Thank you all and may God take you back to your various destinations.”
