The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected motorcycle thieves operating across state lines, alongside the recovery of stolen motorcycles in Ibadan.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the breakthrough followed credible intelligence on the activities of a 24-year-old suspect, Ibrahim Adebisi, who allegedly specialised in stealing motorcycles from parking locations.

Acting on the intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, ordered a coordinated operation that led to Adebisi’s arrest at his residence without resistance.

According to the statement, the suspect confessed during interrogation and revealed that he typically stole motorcycles from Ilesa in Osun State before transporting them to the Ojoo area of Ibadan for sale.

Based on his confession, police operatives extended their investigation to the Ojoo axis, where a second suspect, 23-year-old Hussein Haruna, was apprehended. He reportedly admitted to serving as a receiver of stolen motorcycles.

Further investigation resulted in the recovery of two unregistered Boxer motorcycles and one unregistered TVS Neo NX ladies’ motorcycle believed to have been stolen by the syndicate.

The police noted that efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the group and recover additional stolen motorcycles already distributed through their network.

The Commissioner of Police commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olutunji Rilwan Disu, for his continued support and strategic leadership in enhancing operational effectiveness nationwide.

Reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property, the Command urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing security efforts.

Residents were also encouraged to make use of the Oyo State Call Response Centre toll-free line 615, as well as the Command’s control room numbers, 08081768614 and 07055495413, in case of emergencies.
