Over 70 amateur fighters on Thursday arrived the Teslim Balogun Stadium for the inaugural amateur MMA tournament organized by the African Fighting Championship in Lagos.
The week-long amateur MMA tournament, which started with a high-profile press conference on Wednesday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium where the introduction of key partners, dignitaries, and athletes, including a special appearance by UFC fighter Sodiq Yusuff, nicknamed “Super Sodiq” were made. Journalists and invited media had the opportunity to engage directly with stakeholders during a Q&A session. The tournament officially kicked off on 11th September with a grand opening ceremony at the stadium including a live performance of the Nigerian national anthem by renowned singer Atela, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by top dignitaries.
Athletes from across the nation were on parade into the venue, marking the beginning of the first official matches. Coverage of the event will include a highlight reel, athlete interviews, and a comprehensive opening recap package.
As the competition heats up, the action returned on 13th September with the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.
