Oyekunle Onigbinde, the last son of late Super Eagles head coach, Festus Adegboyega Onigbinde, said his father fought well to stay alive despite battling illness.

The family confirmed the 88-year-old coach’s death in a Monday statement signed by a member of the family, Bolade Adesuyi.

Speaking in Ibadan, Oyo State, Oyekunle said his father’s death was a huge shock.

He described his father as a generous man who cares for everyone.

“He fought well to stay alive.

“He was sick, but due to old age, his body couldn’t fight the recovery.

“My father was very accommodating; he pulled everyone together.

“He didn’t care who you were; he just wanted everyone happy and united.

“He was the string that knitted many together,” Oyekunle told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

SunOnline recalls that one of Onigbinde’s last public outings was in February 10 when he received a delegation from National Institute for Sports (NIS) led by its Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Philip Shaibu.
