A political group under the aegis of ‘Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria,’ has thrown its weight behind the position of the former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki on Delta Governor, Sheriff Oborovweri’s defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former Senate President had earlier dismissed Gov Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa’s defection from the PDP to the APC, saying there was no cause for alarm.
The group expressed support for Saraki’s statement, saying the former Senate President is known for his influential roles in Nigerian politics, particularly during his tenure from 2015 to 2019.
“Saraki’s statements often carries significant weight, given his experience in navigating the country’s legislative processes.
“His comments on the Delta State Governor’s move to the APC might be seen as part of the broader discussions on political realignments and their implications for governance in Nigeria,” the group stated.

There are insinuations that the Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria group’s backing of Saraki’s statement suggests an internal PDP struggle, with some members seeking reforms or stronger stances against defectors. The development could impact PDP’s internal dynamics and strategy moving forward.
However, the group has advised members of the PDP’s National Working Committee, who are perceived to be working against the party’s interests that they are free to exit the party.
This move, according to the group, is an effort to pave the way for the rebuilding and rejuvenation of the party from within.
By encouraging those deemed disloyal to leave, the group aims to consolidate the party’s internal structures and strengthen its position ahead of future elections.
Speaking about Saraki’s position, a member of the group from Delta State, Mr. Ejiro Moses, said: “We stand firmly behind Saraki’s statement and we believe that it’s time for the PDP to take a strong stance against defectors and those working against the party’s interests. “We will work towards rebuilding and strengthening our party for the future.”
This underscores the ongoing internal conflicts within the PDP and the push for reforms from within.
