The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has flagged off the fourth quarter of its 2025 nationwide sensitization campaign themed “Innovating for Transparency and Efficiency: Strengthening Service Delivery and Combating Corruption Through Reforms,” reaffirming its commitment to accountability, modernisation and integrity in public service delivery.
The flag-off ceremony, held at Zone A Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, featured a keynote address delivered by the Comptroller of the Lagos Border Patrol Command, Seme Border, CIS Peter Adache, who represented the Zonal Coordinator, NIS Zone ‘A’ Command, ACG Mohammed Adamu.
The campaign is part of ongoing efforts by the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mrs Kemi Nanna Nandap to entrench transparency, reduce inefficiency and eliminate corruption across its operations nationwide.
Speaking at the event, Adamu described the campaign as more than a slogan, calling it a clear call to action that reflects the collective resolve of the NIS to build a modern, transparent and efficient institution. According to him, the Immigration Service is determined to stand as a strong barrier against corruption and inefficiency while delivering services with integrity and excellence.
He highlighted the significant technological advancements adopted by the NIS in recent years, noting that the automation of passport applications and the deployment of biometric systems at borders have drastically reduced human interference, delays and opportunities for corrupt practices. These innovations, he said, have not only enhanced transparency but also ensured that immigration services meet the expectations of citizens in a rapidly evolving global environment.
Adamu further explained that the Service has restructured its service centres to prioritise speed, fairness and accountability. As a result, citizens now experience shorter waiting times, clearer procedures and improved customer service. He stressed that these reforms demonstrate that efficiency naturally follows when systems are designed with transparency at their core.
On anti-corruption measures, Adamu emphasised the Service’s zero-tolerance stance, pointing to strict enforcement of ethical codes and disciplinary actions as clear signals that corruption has no place in the Nigeria Immigration Service. He added that officers are continually trained and retrained to uphold integrity as the foundation of their professional duties.
The campaign, he said, also reinforces collaboration with sister security agencies, international partners and civil society organisations to ensure that reforms are not only internal but aligned with broader national and global anti-corruption efforts. These partnerships, according to him, have strengthened oversight, improved capacity and aligned service delivery with international best practices.
He urged officers, stakeholders and citizens to support the campaign, stressing that transparency is a shared responsibility and that efficiency can only be sustained through individual commitment to ethical conduct. He concluded by expressing confidence that, through collective effort, the NIS would continue its journey towards excellence.

In a goodwill message, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Lagos State, Mr Alexander Chukwurah, represented by Mrs Mary Omonoyan, Chief Superintendent, ICPC Lagos Office, commended the leadership of the Nigeria Immigration Service for organising the sensitization campaign.
Chukwurah noted that the theme of the programme underscored the critical role of innovation and reforms in improving public service delivery, promoting accountability and reducing corruption. He stated that the ICPC’s mandate extends beyond investigation and prosecution to include corruption prevention through systems reviews, advisory support, public education and the promotion of integrity standards in public institutions.
He identified innovation and reform as vital tools for blocking corruption, citing digital platforms, reduced discretion, transparent procurement processes and effective complaint-handling mechanisms as measures that enhance efficiency and public trust.
The ICPC also expressed readiness to deepen collaboration with the NIS through joint systems reviews, capacity building, transparent procurement processes, whistleblowing mechanisms and information sharing. Such partnerships, he said, would help reduce corruption risks, system inefficiencies and security challenges, while strengthening public confidence in government institutions.
He assured the NIS of ICPC’s continued support and lauded the Service’s openness to reform, expressing optimism that sustained innovation and integrity would lead to improved service delivery for Nigerians.
