Nigerian musicians earned more than ₦60bn from streams on Spotify in 2025, underlining the growing commercial strength of the country’s music industry and its expanding global footprint.

The figures, contained in Spotify’s latest Loud & Clear report, show a sharp rise in earnings driven by both local consumption and international demand for Afrobeats and other Nigerian sounds.

According to the data, revenue generated by Nigerian artists on the platform has grown by over 140 per cent in the past two years. In 2025 alone, they recorded 30.3 billion streams and amassed about 1.6 billion listening hours.

The report also highlights how Nigerian music continues to dominate locally, with artists accounting for more than 80 per cent of songs on Spotify Nigeria’s Daily Top 50 chart. Local streaming of Nigerian content rose by 170 per cent year-on-year, signalling stronger home support.

Managing Director for Spotify Africa, Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, said the figures reflect a deeper shift in how Nigerian music is consumed and valued globally.

“Nigeria’s music story continues to be one of creativity, innovation, and global cultural influence,” she said.
Beyond the big names, the report points to significant gains for emerging acts.

Streams of Nigerian female artists rose by 55 per cent, while independent artists saw a 75 per cent increase, with independents accounting for about 58 per cent of total royalties.

The data further shows that Nigerian artists are reaching wider audiences, appearing in millions of user-generated playlists globally, reinforcing how streaming is opening new income paths while taking the country’s sound to the world.
