Nigeria and Jamaica have assured of deepening the over 56 years of bilateral relations between both countries.
The assurances were given in Kingston, Jamaica on Thursday when the Nigerian Ambassador-Designate to Jamaica, Dr Jane Bassey Adams, presented her letters of credence to the Governor-General of Jamaica, Sir Patrick Allen.
Speaking during the ceremony, Adams conveyed the warmest greetings from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, to the government and people of Jamaica on the auspicious occasion.
She said her presentation of letters of credence marked a new dawn in Nigeria’s relations with Jamaica.
Adams said: “Today marks another milestone in relations between Nigeria and Jamaica which are bound by a rich tapestry of history, shared heritage, and an unbreakable kinship that that has transcended the distance between our two nations. We are a people united by blood, culture, and a shared vision of freedom, resilience, and greatness.”
The immediate past Acting High Commissioner to Australia further said as she assumed duties as the High Commissioner of Nigeria to Jamaica, her mission is clear – a new dawn in the bilateral relations between both countries to further strengthen the historic ties and translate the deep cultural affinity into robust, mutually beneficial partnerships in trade, investment, health, culture, technology, tourism, and education.

Speaking earlier, the Governor-General of Jamaica, Sir Patrick Allen, acknowledged the 56 years of diplomatic relations between Jamaica and Nigeria, noting that the figures alone did not adequately capture the depth of the relationship.
He expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s contribution of specialist nurses and educators to Jamaica, describing it as a reflection of the warm friendship between both countries.
He also wished the ambassador a successful tour of duty.
In a post on X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, said Jamaica and Nigeria are seeking to deepen a bilateral relationship spanning 56 years.
“This morning (September 10), Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the Honourable Alando Terrelonge @terrelonge2016, welcomed Dr Jane Bassey Adams, Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate to Jamaica, who presented her Copy Letters of Credence.
“Minister Terrelonge warmly welcomed the High Commissioner-designate and expressed the Government’s readiness to work with her to deepen the longstanding ties between the two countries.
“Their discussions turned to practical areas for greater cooperation, including health and capacity building. Dr. Adams’ arrival also comes months after Jamaica opened its Consulate in Lagos, expanding the country’s presence in one of Nigeria’s major centres for commerce, finance, innovation and technology.
“Later today, Dr. Adams will present her Letters of Credence to His Excellency the Governor-General, formally accrediting her as High Commissioner for Nigeria to Jamaica,” the Jamaican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade wrote.
