In continuation of its efforts to get more states to key into the opportunity of benefitting from carbon credit, the reward for engaging in activities that reduce carbon emission, Greenplinth Africa has signed on Niger State in a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA).
At the signing ceremony in Lagos recently, which held during the Green Conference 2026, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change in Niger State, Abubakar Musa, noted that the state is partnering Greenplinth in fighting carbon emission in order to partake in the numerous benefits accruing from the effort.
According to him, the state is committing to the project because it aligns with the Niger State governor’s forestation and climate change programmes.
For Dr. Daniel Galadima, the Director General, Niger State Agency for Green Initiatives, and a member of the Niger State delegation to the event, the partnership with Greenplinth Africa is a win-win for every stakeholder.
Galadima said, “this project by Greenplinth, the clean cookstove project, has come in to solve the issue of poverty, to increase revenue to families and to the state, and to provide health to individuals, particularly women. It is also a revenue base for the state government to improve its socio-economic activities and developmental projects in the state.”
He further noted that, “we are actually working in line with what is happening concerning the challenges of climate change and the process of decarbonising the state.”
Commending Greenplinth Africa for its laudable efforts to rid Nigeria and Africa of carbon emission, the director general, Niger State Agency for Green Initiatives, stated that the it is, “one of the private organisations that have demonstrated commitment in curbing the climate issues in the country and it is a good sign for the country and for Africa and for the world at large.”
Nasarawa State, one of the states indicating interest to sign the MoA on carbon emission, was also represented at the event. Its representative, Dr. Muhammad Ismail, Director General, Nigerian Erosion and Watershed Project Management and the Special Assistant to the President and Governor on Environment and Climate Change Issues, assured that the state was very ready to participate in the programme.
He said, “Nasarawa State is very ready to key into this programme. The convener of the programme had a team delegated to the Nasarawa State government. They brought a template on the significance of this climate change issue. The state government went through it and we made a promise and we are working on our paper on how to provide land that can accommodate this programme in our state. Because it’s a kind of programme that is going to help in reducing climate issues in the state.
“It is going to provide a lot of employment opportunities and financial assistance to some less privileged people in the state.”
Earlier in his remarks, the Deputy Managing Director, Greenplinth Africa, Babatunde Aina, said all the states signing up for the project would be getting a lot of social capital and revenue from carbon credit.
Niger and Nasarawa states were presented with the Green Icon Award for their efforts at eradicating the challenge of carbon emission.
