Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has urged the newly elected local government chairmen in the state not to allow opposition elements to “mess up” in their areas.
He ordered them to deal with such elements mercilessly if they try to “mess up” in their local governments.
Addressing the new council chairmen and a mammoth crowd during their swearing-in in Abakaliki, the state capital, the governor threatened to remove any of them who loses his or her area to the opposition in next year’s general election.
He declared that in the next two weeks, “we will start showing actions”.
Nwifuru further declared that no single position would be relinquished to the opposition by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election and urged the new council chairmen to work towards the declaration.
“It is a challenge to those who we have been elected to govern our local government. It is left for them to deliver the candidates of our party in the forthcoming general election.
“Campaign has been declared open for the National Assembly. So, as you are going back to your local governments, what you should be talking about is our party, APC to win all the elections.
“We cannot leave any position to any other political party, we will win 100% for the general election. Go and tell opposition this.
“Opposition said we are threatening then. We have not started our campaign and they are complaining, we will threaten you when time comes.
“So, nobody is threatening you, we are starting the facts and we are willing to follow our words with actions. We are not mincing words of delivering our party, we are politicians. We must speak for our party and we must deliver our party.
“I pity those who are here with us as informants and they are discussing us. We are not speaking in secrets, we are above that. We are the only party functioning here and we are not mincing words about it.
“It is not a hidden thing that we politicians. It is not also a hidden thing that we are contesting election. God knows this, God is the one that sanction it and there is nothing anybody can say that can make us not to say what we are supposed to say at any point in time. So, we are willing.
“Those that think that we are threatening them, the time for threatening will come and we will threaten you so that you do your worst.
“As a local government chairman, if you like, go and sleep so that another person will takeover your house. You will not stop us from winning, but when we win, we will remove you. It is also as simple as that. And it is also not hidden.
“So, let the first page of a newspaper carry it on Wednesday that we will remove a council chairmen that did not win his local government. We will use your councillor and remove you.
“If you allow anybody to come to your local government and mess up, deal with that person mercilessly. As a politician, tell the person openly. It is either you are with me or you are against me. And by next two weeks, we will start showing actions.
“So, those who said they are prepared, we are prepared better than they think of and we are willing to do the job,” he stated.
