Assures stakeholders of urgent intervention
Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has assured stakeholders from the Northern Senatorial District of urgent government intervention in infrastructure, education, electricity, and economic development.
Otu gave the assurance during a high-level engagement with political leaders and stakeholders at the Ogoja Local Government Council headquarters.
The meeting focused on critical issues affecting the region, including roads, bridges, the proposed university, revival of the Okuku International Market, electricity supply and economic development.
Responding to the concerns raised, the Governor said urgent and high-impact projects would receive priority.
“We have listened to you, and we understand the concerns that have been expressed here.
“Government must listen to the people and work towards solutions that will improve their lives,” Otu said.
He stressed that particular attention would be given to critical bridges linking communities, noting that collapsed infrastructure could isolate entire areas and disrupt economic activities.
On the proposed university for Cross River North, Otu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the project.
“The university is still very much alive. It is part of the commitment we made to our people, and we remain committed to it,” he said.

The governor explained that setting up the institution required meeting regulatory standards, but said “significant progress has been made.”
Otu also promised to revive the Okuku International Market, describing it as a strategic economic asset for the region. He added that road projects around the market axis were being pursued to reconnect farmers, traders, and buyers.
On power, the Governor said his administration was engaging relevant authorities to address electricity challenges in the North, adding that reliable power was key to industrialisation.
He further expressed optimism that Cross River would regain its oil-producing status, saying it would open new economic opportunities for the state.
The governor called for unity and a more inclusive approach to party organisation, promising that commitment and performance would be prioritised.
“Your concerns are our concerns, and your development is part of the future we are building for Cross River,” Otu assured.
The meeting ended with stakeholders commending the governor for the direct engagement and renewed commitment to the development of Cross River North.
