The Vice Chancellor (VC) Delta state University, (Delsu), Abraka, Professor Samuel Asagba, has disclosed that all transactions relating to the student loans, administered by Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), were being scrutinized by Anti-graft agency, in order to prevent fraudulent claims or diversions by universities management.
Responding to concerns raised on the transparency of the student loans while briefing newsmen on his achievements in the last 12months in office, Prof Asagba, noted that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had summoned all Vice Chancellors to a meeting on proper documentations of the funds in various institutions.
While acknowledging that there may have been cases of some Vice Chancellors involvement in the diversion of these monies for personal use, the VC noted that Delsu has maintained a clean record as far as the student loans are concerned and even refunded parents who had earlier paid their money immediately NELFUND drops in the school account.
According to him; yes, I can tell you that some Vice Chancellors are diverting these funds into personal pockets in other schools and it was based on this that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) summoned all the Vice -Chancellors to a meeting in Abuja and warned against such fraudulent act with the loans and they would be monitoring the disbursements from time to time.”
“But I can tell you that we at Delta state University, have been transparent on the disbursement of these loans since its inception and our records had been intact. We do not get carried away with money that’s not ours and we do not put our eyes in other people’s money.”.

Here at Delsu, we even refunded parents who had earlier paid for their children school fees back their money as soon as NELFUND dropped into the school’s account“, he stated.
The VC who had earlier revealed that the Delsu now occupied the first position among the state owned universities in the country, said plans had been concluded to inject 16 new programs, mostly in Sciences in the school, adding that the appropriate education regulatory bodies have approved these programs.
On accommodation, Prof Asagba, revealed that the institution has concluded plan to build additional hostels throughout its Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative that would accommodate over Two Thousand, Five Hundred (2,500) students., as a way of reducing the burden of hostels in the school.
He stated that some of his partners in this regard included; Corporate bodies, Private individuals, especially those resident abroad and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and expressed optimism that the hostels building projects would commence very soon to alleviate the burden of students.
