The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has began a strategic summit, the 2026 Excellence Forum to strengthen the commission and processes that support the delivery of its core mandate to the people in the sub-region.
The three-day forum, which started in Maiduguri, Borno State capital on Monday August 14, brings together staff from the Commission’s headquarters and its Offices across the six states that constitute the northeast.
The commission in a statement on Monday in Maiduguri, said the summit will examine how the principles of quality, accountability, integrity and improved service delivery can be better reflected in the day-to-day work of its staff.
NEDC Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Goni Alkali, noted in the statement that the value of standards will be determined by how they improve the commission’s work and its service to the people of the northeast.
“For us, excellence must ultimately be measured by the quality of development we deliver to the people of the Northeast,” he maintained.
Alkali said despite the commission’s international certifications highlighting its standards, the real work is to ensuring those standards are reflected in the commission’s work and service delivery.
He said this explianed the reason the commission is moving from standards to practice which is the essence of the 2026 forum.
According to the commission, the Forum follows the NEDC’s certification to five International Organization for Standardization management system standards covering quality management, environmental management, occupational health and safety, anti-bribery management, and sustainable development in Communities.
It explianed that participants will work through practical exercises, simulations and real workplace situations instead of paper presentations. It said this is to improve collaboration, problem-solving and service delivery.
