Former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and co chair of the APC Women Mobilisation Directorate, Dr Betta Edu, has empowered 500 market women in Cross River State with chest freezers and N50,000 seed capital each.

The weekend outreach was part of efforts to boost grassroots businesses and mobilise women’s support ahead of the 2027 general elections, in line with the First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Edu said some of the women trade with as little as N5,000 or N10,000 capital, and that N50,000 would help them expand, earn more and better support their families. She also sensitised the women on federal interventions, including the student loan scheme, free emergency maternal healthcare and grants for market women facilitated through the Office of the First Lady.

Edu urged Cross Riverians to support Tinubu, Governor Bassey Otu and all APC candidates. She said the programme would extend to Obubra and Abi in November and December, and to the north in January.
