In a bid to ensure the professionalism and discipline of its officers and men, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) said it has sent over 800 personnel to different parts of the world for training in the last 18 months.
Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, who stated this, on Wednesday, during the commissioning ceremony of projects at the NAF Base in Makurdi.
He also disclosed that the number of recruits have been increased from 1000 to 2000 yearly.
Marshal Abubakar also noted that there can be no professional service without the required manpower stated further that 100 officers are expected to come in this year through the Direct Short Service Commission.
Said he, “To have a professional service, you need to have the manpower required. That informed our decision to increase the number of recruits that are coming in to the service from 1000 a year to about 2000. And God willing, by the end of this year, we should have additional 4000 recruits into the service.”
The CAS, who said that there can be no professional Air Force without the right equipment, maintained that 13 aircraft have so far been reactivated while the 14th and 15th aircrafts are currently undergoing reactivation.
“You cannot have a professional Air Force if you don’t have the right equipment. That is why we have been reactivating air planes. We have reactivated about 13 air planes and we are working on the 14th and the 15th aircrafts.”
While also harping on the welfare needs of personnel, the Air Chief said it was for that reason that renovation of both residential and office accommodations are ongoing across NAF units in the country.
Abubakar while urging the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the facilities also enjoined them not to get distracted by misguided elements whose desire is to cause anarchy, confusion and disunity in the country not for any reason but for their own selfish reasons.
