From Lateef Dada, Osogbo
Adeoye Onigbinde, son of the late former Super Eagles coach, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, said on Tuesday that his father remained a steadfast advocate for developing local football talent until his death.
Speaking with our correspondent, Adeoye said his father consistently urged investment in grassroots football and the nurturing of homegrown players.
“The only thing he has been saying all along is for sport to be developed internally. I mean, it should focus on grassroots development of sports, especially football in Nigeria,” he said.
Adeoye added that Chief Onigbinde believed Nigeria already possesses abundant talent that, if properly developed, could significantly strengthen the nation’s football sector.
“His major focus was on local talent. He believed that we have the talent in Nigeria and that we should make use of the talent we have to develop our football,” Adeoye said.
