The Medical Director, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Uselu, Benin, Dr Imafidon Agbonile, has called on the Nigerian media to see mental health advocacy as part of their corporate social responsibility to the country.

He made the call while playing host to the members of the Federated Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council.

Dr Agbonile said the importance of mental health cannot be overemphasized and that the Nigerian media should see how they could take the message to the doorsteps of the Nigerian populace.

Agbonile said children also suffer from mental health-related issues, stressing that early discovery and treatment can help nip the situation in the bud.

He said the hospital has such who have been brought in, and that they have been properly managed and taken care of.

He said early detection and treatment are the sure keys ways to go about it.

The MD said it is when the media keep on with their advocacy on mental health, that the public can get to know of its usefulness.

The MD maintained that the media and the hospital work hand-in-hand to ensure that the society is better and that the relationship would be built upon and sustained for a better and egalitarian society.
