The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has donated operational vehicles to the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Lagos State Police Command.

Also presented were bulletproof vests and ballistic helmets. The operational vehicles and equipment are expected to enhance efficiency, preparedness and coordinated response across the state.

It was against this backdrop that the Executive Secretary/CEO of LSSTF, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, at the weekend donated the vehicles and equipment to the command.

The security equipment and response vehicles were formally received by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani, during a handover ceremony attended by senior police officers and other security stakeholders.

The Violent Crime Response Unit, recently launched by Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, was established to strengthen rapid operational deployment and improve coordinated response capacity in all 36 states and the FCT.

Speaking during the presentation, Dr Ogunsan reaffirmed the LSSTF’s commitment to continually providing operational support, logistics and protective equipment required to enhance policing efficiency and personnel safety across the state.

He noted that effective security management requires sustained collaboration between government institutions and security agencies, stressing that Lagos must remain proactive in equipping frontline personnel with modern tools needed to effectively discharge their responsibilities.

In his remarks, CP Tijani commended the LSSTF for its consistent partnership and strategic interventions, describing the donation as impactful, saying it would strengthen operational readiness, mobility and personnel protection within the Lagos State Police Command.

Meanwhile, the fund has donated safety kits, including protective boots and helmets, to the state Task Force.

Task Force Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, received the safety kits donated to officers and men of the agency by the Executive Secretary of LSSTF, Ogunsan.

During the donation, Ogunsan emphasised the importance of prioritising the safety and well-being of personnel whose daily routines revolve around the protection of lives and property.

“You stay awake for us to sleep with our two eyes closed. I am sure history will be kind to you for doing so at the expense of your own health and safety. Hence, the need for LSSTF to provide you with these protective kits to protect yourselves. Help yourselves and take care of your health,” he urged.

He reaffirmed his organisation’s commitment to the security architecture of the state, stating: “I always put the security of the state at the forefront. If Lagos State will remain safe, secure and habitable, the role of the state Task Force is not a pushover, and the achievement will be dedicated to you and other security enforcement agencies.”

CSP Akerele, while thanking Ogunsan and his team for their support, also charged officers to utilise the protective kits effectively to ensure better service delivery and safety in their operations. He promised that the personnel would put the kits to good use.
