Eko Centennial Lions Club has empowered some women and youths in Aga, Ikorodu, Lagos State, on skills acquisition to be self-reliant and employers of labour.

Speaking at the end of the free training programme on head tying (gele tying), club president, Mukaila Ayinla Obadimeji, said the effort was aimed at meeting the legitimate demands of unemployed citizens, especially the youth for decent job opportunities.

The programme was organised in conjunction with De Roses organisation. He said it was to reduce unemployment and tackle poverty: “The idea was to encourage the youths in taking up their own businesses in the drive towards self reliance and reduction of unemployment.

“Lion Club is worried by the rising rate of unemployment and degrading values in the country, hence, the need for the intervention. “When the youths are positively engaged, crime rate  will reduce and issue of poverty will be addressed.”

The club also  donated relief materials to inmates of the Lagos State Rehabilitation and Training Centre, Agric, Ikorodu. It called on influential Nigerians to use their influence and effluence to serve and uplift the society: “They should invest in programmes that will promote the cause of humanity.

“Lions Club understands  its roles in the society, and it will continue to give helping hands to the needy.”
