Poland captain Robert Lewandowski is set to continue his career in Major League Soccer after agreeing a move to Chicago Fire, with the transfer expected to be finalised next week.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the veteran striker has reached an agreement with the MLS club after travelling to Chicago two weeks ago, where he held talks with senior club officials. He is expected to sign his contract early next week before being officially unveiled.
The move will bring one of Europe’s most accomplished forwards to the United States after an illustrious career spanning more than two decades.
Lewandowski enjoyed successful spells with Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Barcelona, winning league titles in Germany and Spain while establishing himself as one of football’s most prolific goalscorers. Before moving to Germany, he also claimed domestic honours in his native Poland.
The 37-year-old leaves Europe with an outstanding record that includes multiple Bundesliga titles, UEFA Champions League success, domestic cups and individual awards. He also remains Poland’s all-time leading goalscorer and one of the country’s greatest-ever footballers.
Chicago Fire believe Lewandowski’s arrival will significantly strengthen the team’s attacking options while also raising the club’s global profile. His signing is expected to become one of the biggest transfers in Major League Soccer this season.
The MLS side is expected to confirm the deal once all contractual formalities and registration processes have been completed. If finalised, Lewandowski will become the latest high-profile European star to continue his career in the United States.
