Lagos State Government, in partnership with international organisation, Darsel has presented awards to students who excelled in the Darsel Learn by Text Mathematics Initiative.
The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education said the recognition aims to appreciate students who actively used the Artificial Intelligence tool to enhance their mathematics skills.
At the ceremony held at Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, Mrs. Dokumu Adegbite, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, emphasized that the initiative goes beyond just solving math problems; it addresses broader social challenges.

“We encourage everyone to take self-development seriously. Principals should strengthen collaboration with teachers and students. I urge this year’s winners not to rest on their laurels but to keep striving and motivate others. Without education, there is no society. We want to elevate education to its rightful place,” she said.
Mrs. Wunmi Tolu-Alalade, Darsel’s country implementation partner, explained that the programme is designed to improve students’ mathematics performance and overall education quality in Lagos. She called for increased government support across all levels.
The initiative runs from the start of the academic year until schools close and involved 30,000 students from Lagos State Junior Secondary Schools. Winners were selected based on their effective use of the AI-powered chatbot tool, which encourages students to practice mathematics for just 15 minutes daily.
