Former governor of Abia State and senator representing Abia North, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, was among dignitaries that honoured the Director-General, Nigerian institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Prof Eghosa Osaghae, as his son married in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The traditional marriage ceremony between Susan Olatokunbo Komolafe and Samuel Noyosayi Osaghae and reception were held at Manhattan Hall, Jericho, Eleyele Road, Ibadan, yesterday.
Kalu, who was represented by Oluseye Ojo, reigning Environment Reporter of the Year, Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA) and an editorial staff member of The Sun Newspapers, was joined by dignitaries from all walks of life, including former governor of Delta State, James Ibori and Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Adeniyi Adebayo, to honour the Oshagaes and the bride’s family.
The list of eminent personalities included the mother of the bridegroom. Dr. Veronica Osaghae; father of the bride, Mr. Kolawole Komolafe; Director of Administration of NIIA, Mr. James Osoata; ex-Attorney-General of Edo State, Wole Iyamu, who was represented by his wife, Bola; Asiwaju of Ijeshaland, Chief Yinka Fasuyi; and former Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Idowu Olayinka.
Kalu, who congratulated the newly wedded couple, wished them a happy married life. He charged them not to allow a third party to control their marriage and to evolve an effective conflict resolution mechanism within their nuclear family.
“Congratulations on your beautiful new journey together! Marriage is a wonderful adventure filled with unconditional love, partnership, and growth. As you embark on this path, I wish you both a happy and fulfilling married life, where each day brings you closer and strengthens the bond you share. I urge you to cherish the love you have for one another, and always remember that it’s the little moments that make your relationship truly special.
“As you navigate the joys and challenges of marriage, I encourage you to guard your union against external influences and pray always. It’s essential to maintain your own voice and perspective within this partnership.
“No third party should have the power to steer the course of your relationship; instead, focus on nurturing your connection and fortifying your commitment to one another. Trust, respect, and understanding are critical components that will help you weather any storm.
“Also, consider developing an effective conflict resolution mechanism that works for both of you. Disagreements are a natural part of any relationship, but how you handle them can make all the difference. Approach conflicts with open hearts and minds, and prioritise honest communication.
“By doing so, you will cultivate a strong foundation that allows your love to flourish, ensuring that you come out stronger on the other side of any challenge. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness, love, and shared dreams,” Kalu stated.
The Osaghaes and Komolafes could not hide their joy that the wedding day was a reality and the programme was successful.
Asiwaju of Ijeshaland, Chief Yinka Fasuyi, who chaired the wedding reception, in his message advised the couple to be.committed to tolerating each other, emplacing and nurturing unconditional love, developing effective communication, and prayers.
