…NANS Ogun urges security agencies to honour invitations
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State Joint Campus Council (JCC), is set to host its Students’ Security Summit and Inauguration of Executives on Wednesday, November 11.
This was conveyed in a Friday statement signed by Chairman, NANS Ogun JCC, Comr. Faruq Olabode.
According to the statement, the summit is borne out of the association’s commitment to promoting a safer and more secure learning environment across tertiary institutions in Ogun State.
It will bring together security agencies, institutional managements, community leaders, student leaders and other relevant stakeholders to deliberate on practical and sustainable approaches to addressing security challenges confronting students and their institutions.
With the theme “The Need to Safeguard Our Campuses: The Role of Security Agencies, Institutional Managements, Community Leaders, Student Leaders and Students in Safeguarding Our Campuses,” the summit is expected to provide a platform for constructive engagement, collaboration, intelligence sharing and the development of stronger security partnerships.
Olabode passionately appealed to all invited security agencies to honour their invitations and participate actively in the gathering.
He said, “We believe that campus security is a collective responsibility that requires the commitment and cooperation of every relevant stakeholder. The absence of any security agency at a gathering of this importance, particularly when such an agency has been duly invited, would raise serious concerns about its commitment to engaging with the student community on matters of safety and security.
“We therefore urge every invited security agency not to treat this invitation as a mere ceremonial engagement but as an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between security institutions and the students they are entrusted to protect.
“Our position remains clear: any institution or agency that deliberately turns its back on genuine efforts to promote peace, security and the protection of students risks being perceived by the student community as an obstacle to the collective pursuit of peace. We expect cooperation, not indifference, because the safety of students must never be compromised.”
He disclosed that as part of the event, NANS Ogun JCC will recognise and honour deserving security agencies, community leaders and institutional managements for their contributions, commitment and support towards promoting students’ safety, peaceful coexistence and a more secure academic environment across Ogun State.
“The awards are intended to appreciate stakeholders who have demonstrated dedication to the protection of lives and property, while encouraging stronger partnerships and greater commitment to campus security,” Olabode said.
“We believe that those who contribute meaningfully to the safety and welfare of students deserve recognition, just as we expect more stakeholders to rise to the responsibility of protecting the future of our nation.”
He stated, “NANS Ogun JCC remains committed to constructive engagement, strategic partnerships and result-oriented advocacy. We are convinced that safeguarding our campuses requires more than statements of concern; it requires deliberate action, institutional cooperation and sustained commitment.
“We call on all invited guests, stakeholders, student leaders, the media and the general public to identify with this historic initiative.
“Together, we can build safer campuses and communities where students can pursue their academic ambitions without fear.”
