The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has presented party flags to 44 candidates contesting various legislative positions in Anambra State and announced its adoption of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

The event, which also marked the party’s campaign flag-off, was held at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, Anambra State on Friday, November 6, 2026, with APGA unveiling more than 253 candidates across the federation.

Speaking at the event, APGA national leader and Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, said the party’s strategic alignment at the national level was aimed at consolidating progress and sustaining effective governance structures across the state and country.

Soludo charged the candidates to embark on vigorous door-to-door campaigns, urging them to communicate their messages directly to the electorate and distinguish facts from emotions.

He disclosed that APGA would not field a presidential candidate in 2027 but would instead support President Tinubu, citing what he described as the president’s love and concern for the Igbo people, particularly Anambra State.

The governor recalled that during Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos State governor, several Anambra indigenes were appointed to strategic positions in the state.
He also noted that APGA had supported presidential candidates of the ruling party in previous elections, describing the decision to adopt Tinubu in 2027 as a continuation of that political arrangement.

According to Soludo, although Anambra recorded fewer than 5,000 votes for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, the president had continued to address some of the challenges confronting the state and the South-East region.

He, therefore, urged Ndi Anambra to support Tinubu in 2027, arguing that such support would strengthen the state’s engagement with the Federal Government and create opportunities to negotiate for the development of the South-East.

Also speaking, APGA National Chairman, Chief Sly Ezeokenwa, expressed confidence in the party and urged all candidates to take its manifesto to every ward and voting district.

He reaffirmed Anambra State as APGA’s political stronghold and called on party faithful to work towards securing support for its candidates.
The beneficiaries comprised three senatorial candidates, 11 House of Representatives candidates and 30 candidates contesting seats in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
