The abducted retired Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Godwin Okpala has regained his freedom.

Okpala, a professor, went missing on December 6 after embarking on a journey to Umuchu, Aguata local government area of Anambra State alongside his driver.

Okpala confirmed his release in a Facebook post on Thursday morning.

“Praise the Lord!” the cleric wrote, drawing hundreds of jubilant comments from well-wishers.

Details of the 75-year-old cleric’s release remain sketchy as of press time.

Daily Sun recalls that incumbent Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt.Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, declared Okpala missing in a prayer request on Facebook on December 7.

He said his predecessor and driver failed to reach their destination in Umuchu more than 24 hours after embarking on the journey.

“We earnestly plead for your fervent prayers for their safety and swift return,” Obi said.
