Iran gives condition for reopening of Strait of Hormuz

Strait of Hormuz

Iran has stated the condition under which the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened amid the ongoing conflict with Israel and the United States in the Middle East.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi disclosed that the country agreed to “suspend defensive operations” if attacks by the United States and Israel were halted.

Speaking on Tuesday night, Araghchi said, “For a period of two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible via coordination with Iran’s Armed Forces and with due consideration of technical limitations.

“If attacks against Iran are halted, our powerful armed forces will cease their defensive operations.”

According to Iran’s Supreme National Council, the war ending depends on the US accepting the demands outlined in its 10-point plan.

“It is emphasised that this(ceasefire agreement) does not mean the end of the war, and Iran will only accept the end of the war when, in addition to accepting the principles outlined in the 10-point plan, the details are finalised in negotiations,” it stated.

The security council added that negotiations with the US will take place in Islamabad, the Pakistani capital.
