Assistant Inspector General of Police, Criminal Investigation Department [FCID], Alagbon Annex, Lagos, Simeon Akpanudom, said 56 suspects have been arrested and charged to court vandalism of telecommunications infrastructure, Illegal importation, counterfeiting , obtaining money by pretense, cheating and illegal procurement of abortion. He spoke at the Inspector General of Police Conference in Abuja: “My vision is to focus on proactive initiatives that deny criminal elements a safe haven.
“The command has undertaken a comprehensive reassessment of its crime prevention strategies, with community policing serving as the foundation element of the approach. In the area of investigation, we have 1,762 letters of complaint. While 1,725 were referred for investigation and report. Fifty six cases were concluded and processed in various courts, while the outstanding cases are at various stages of investigation, vetting
and advice.
“Interpol rescued 45 persons from traffickers, four suspects on the watchlist were arrested. Two were arrested outside the country and three were repatriated.
We have trained 30 detectives on crypto tracing, analysis and investigation in collaboration with the United States Diplomatic and Security Services, Regional Security Office and Internal Revenue Service through the US Consulate General.
We have six personnel who benefited from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund training on enhancing professional capacity.
“We arrested suspected vandals of telecommunication infrastructure and unlawful possession of firearms, criminal counterfeiting of products and obtaining money by false pretense.
Operatives arrested three other suspected criminals specialising in vandalism and theft of telecommunication infrastructure within the Ayobo, Alimosho LG, Lagos State. We recovered one locally made pistol, one deep-sea electronic memory device, four Riyar solar batteries, six solar modules and one cable cutter.
“FCID investigating team arrested a suspect obtaining N16 million, by pretence and cheating. Two suspects are being remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
“We are committed to improving the investigative capacity of personnel through training, infrastructure upgrade, and robust collaboration with relevant stakeholders for enhanced service delivery and winning the hearts and minds of the public and eliciting their trust. Also, we enhance robust collaboration with stakeholders, visit royal fathers, Chief Judge of Lagos State, the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency and the Zonal Assistant Controller General of Correctional Centres.
“We have pledged our undivided loyalty and commitment to the IGP’s policy of people-centred policing, respect for human rights and liberties, rule of law.
We reassure members of the public that all suspects found culpable at the conclusion of investigations will be prosecuted diligently in courts of competent jurisdiction in accordance with extant laws. The Department remains resolute in its commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure, preserving intellectual property rights, combating economic sabotage, , preventing fraud, and maintaining public confidence in the administration of justice.
