The Federal Government has deployed 37 electric buses in Abuja for civil servants under the Renewed Hope Mass Transit Programme, in a move aimed at cushioning the impact of rising transportation costs on workers.
The buses constitute the first phase of a planned 100-electric-bus fleet, with the programme expected to be extended beyond Abuja to Federal Secretariats in other parts of the country.
Reacting to the intervention, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG) commended President Bola Tinubu, describing the deployment as a practical response to transportation challenges confronting civil servants.
The group said the intervention was particularly significant because its Convener, Bamidele Atoyebi, had recently submitted a proposal to the President advocating affordable staff transportation for workers across Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
According to BAT-IG, Atoyebi’s proposal followed interactions with workers at the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), a military hospital and other federal institutions in Abuja on August 12,
during which concerns were raised over the increasing proportion of workers’ incomes being consumed by transportation.
The group said its proposal specifically canvassed the deployment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to MDAs, expansion of vehicle conversion centres and wider government intervention to reduce transportation costs for workers.

Although the latest intervention involves electric rather than CNG buses, BAT-IG said it welcomed the government’s decision to directly address the transportation difficulties facing civil servants.
The group commended Tinubu for responding to workers’ welfare concerns and pursuing measures it said could translate the Renewed Hope Agenda into tangible benefits.
Atoyebi said BAT-IG would continue to identify challenges confronting Nigerians and advocate policies and projects capable of addressing them.
“As of today, BAT-IG has proposed more than 70 people-oriented interventions and development proposals across different communities, streets, wards, local government areas and states, including proposals submitted within the past two days.
“For BAT-IG, this is the essence of ideological support for President Tinubu: not merely defending government policies, but identifying gaps, presenting workable solutions and supporting the administration to deliver projects that directly improve the lives of Nigerians,” he said.
Atoyebi said the group would continue to document and advocate development interventions while mobilising support for programmes it considered beneficial to Nigerians.
“BAT-IG, therefore, congratulates President Tinubu on this important intervention and encourages the Federal Government to sustain and expand the programme to reach more workers and communities across Nigeria,” he said.
