- Rector reaffirms commitment to transparency
In a decisive move to strengthen institutional integrity and promote ethical governance, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has inaugurated and administered the oath of allegiance to members of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH).
The commissioning was held at the Academic Board Room of the college in the presence of the critical stakeholders, marking a renewed commitment by the institution to uphold transparency and fight corruption at all levels.
Speaking during the event, the Rector of YABATECH, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, charged the newly inaugurated ACTU members to demonstrate zero tolerance for corruption and all forms of unethical conduct, especially financial misconduct within the system.
“Let your actions reflect the confidence reposed in you, as this responsibility is not just ceremonial but a call to duty. You must reject any form of malpractice that could undermine the integrity of your office and the college,” he admonished
Dr. Abdul further emphasised that ACTU members must serve as role models by leading the transparency campaign from within, upholding the principles they are tasked to enforce.
Representing the Chairman of ICPC, Musa Aliyu, the Resident Commissioner in Lagos State, Chukwurah Alexander, lauded the College for its commitment to ethical standards and institutional accountability.
He noted that ACTU, established across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), is a key instrument in the fight against corruption in public service.
“With this inauguration, we expect the ACTU team to carry out periodic sensitisation campaigns, enforce staff ethics, and monitor compliance within the institution,” Chukwurah stated.
He further clarified that ACTU is to work hand-in-hand with the College Management, not as adversaries but as partners in progress.
During the ceremony, Chukwurah presented the official ACTU operational manual to the College’s Rector, outlining the framework for the Unit’s duties and responsibilities.
Two papers on ‘The Role and Responsibilities of ACTU’ and ‘Preliminaries Investigation for ACTUs’ were presented to the members and the dignitaries present at the re-inauguration exercise by the Principal Superintendent, Rabiat Umar and the Assistant Commissioner, Bariboloka Florence, respectively.
In his inaugural speech, the chairman, Yabatech ACTU, Engr. Tairu Onawale pledged the team’s unwavering commitment to the values of accountability, transparency, and integrity.
He assured both the college and ICPC that the Unit would carry out its mandate with dedication and professionalism.
