Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has dismissed claims that his relationship with former presidential running mate Peter Obi has been strained by political developments since the 2023 general election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Inside Sources, Datti responded to allegations that he was unable to deliver his polling ward during the 2023 election, insisting that such claims have no bearing on his relationship with Obi.
According to him, attempts by critics to create division between him and the former Anambra governor would not succeed.
“Nobody will cause problems between me and my boss, Peter Obi. He can be in any party today, I still have respect for him,” Datti said.

The former senator praised Obi’s record in public office, noting that he remains one of the political figures he admires for his leadership style and personal principles.
“I respect him as someone who governed Anambra State and as someone who doesn’t give shishi,” he added.
Datti stressed that despite ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, the mutual respect between him and Obi remains intact.
“We have mutual respect,” he said, dismissing suggestions of any fallout between the two former running mates.
His remarks come amid growing speculation about the political future of key opposition figures and their possible alignments ahead of the next general election.
