Six people, including the driver of a commuter vehicle were killed by gunmen in the early hours of yesterday in Benue State.

It was gathered that the commuter vehicle departed Takum for Wukari around 6 a.m and was ambushed at a village near Sai in neighboring Benue state.

The Chairman of Takum LGA, John Ali, who confirmed the incident to newsmen said that, “I arrived in Jalingo yesterday for a meeting, but this morning I received a call about a tragic incident along the Takum-Wukari Highway. Five passengers left Takum around 6 a.m. and while approaching a village near Sai in Benue State, gunmen emerged from the forest and opened fire on the moving vehicle. The five passengers and the driver were killed”.

Ali said security operatives in the area have initiated patrols to track down the fleeing gunmen.

The State Police Command is yet to speak on the incident.

However, our Correspondent gathered that the victims included victims of the attack on Takum/Wukari road; the driver, Kabiru, Mr Abba Ayuba Bulus, Registrar, College of Health Technology, Takum, Gambo Andemi, a nonacademic staff with the College.

Others included :Samuel Pius Mbakpough, a principal with Taraba State Post Primary Board, Tanko Danjuma, a staff with the  Federal University Wukari and one other, while the two ladies in the vehicle were spared.

The Chief of Chanchagi in Takum LGA of the  state was recently killed along the same road with his son while returning from Wukari after a function.
