For many people, turning 50 is a moment of reflection. For Omobola Abioye, it is a moment of arrival.
Known to friends and colleagues simply as Bola, Abioye has built a reputation as a respected event strategist, business leader, and community builder, with influence across the United Kingdom, Europe, and Nigeria.
As the founder of Prospect76 Events, she has spent the last eight years creating memorable experiences for families and couples during some of the most important moments of their lives.
Yet beyond the elegance of weddings and high-profile events lies a woman driven by purpose, storytelling, and personal transformation.
“I wear many hats,” she says with a smile. “I am an event coordinator, a senior IT consultant, a community builder, and the convener of The Fireside Conversation. Every role I play is intentional.”
As she celebrates her golden jubilee, Abioye describes the milestone as a season of clarity and freedom.
“Fifty feels like finally exhaling,” she reflects. “After decades of building, giving, and showing up for everyone and everything, I now get to arrive fully and unapologetically. There is a confidence that comes with this age. You stop shrinking yourself to fit spaces that were never designed for you and start creating your own.”
For Abioye, age has brought not only wisdom but a deeper understanding of self.
“I am not just older. I am clearer, freer, and more comfortable in my own skin than ever before.”
Her birthday wish this year is not centred on personal gain but on empowering others, particularly women, to embrace their own journeys.
“My wish is for every woman who has been quietly carrying the weight of an unlived life to put it down and pick up her story instead finally,” she says.
That desire inspired the creation of The Fireside Conversation, an intimate live storytelling platform designed to create safe spaces for people to share authentic experiences about growth, identity, and self-discovery. The next edition is scheduled for October 31 in Brussels.
“This year, my birthday gift to myself is a room full of people brave enough to be seen,” she adds.
Interestingly, Abioye’s most treasured gift was not something that arrived in a box.
“The greatest gift I ever received was the realization that everything I had built was never just work—it was purpose,” she explains. “Every wedding, every family, every celebration I have been privileged to serve has become part of a larger mission. That understanding changed everything for me.”
Years in the events industry have taught her lessons that extend far beyond planning timelines and coordinating vendors.
“This industry will humble you and elevate you in the same breath,” she says. “Things go wrong. Vendors cancel. Weather changes. Emotions run high. In those moments, you realize your job is not simply logistics; it is being the calm that holds everyone else together.”
According to her, creativity is born from listening carefully to clients and translating their personal stories into unforgettable experiences.

“The best ideas rarely come from a brief,” she notes. “They come from understanding who people are and what matters most to them.”
Leadership, she adds, often means maintaining composure under pressure.
“Your clients need confidence. Your team needs clarity. You save the panic and debrief for later.”
Among the many events she has coordinated, one project stands out particularly in her professional journey: an 800-person burial ceremony for the Odia family.
“The scale was enormous, but so was the emotional responsibility,” she recalls. “It was a moment that reminded me that events are never just events. They are chapters in people’s lives. They are moments they will never get back.”
Looking back on the past year, Abioye says she is proud of having successfully expanded Prospect76 Events across multiple international markets while maintaining high service standards.
She also counts the launch of The Fireside Conversation among her most meaningful achievements.
“Creating a space where storytelling and personal growth are at the centre took courage,” she says. “But it has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.”
Despite reaching a milestone age, she insists her ambitions are only growing.
“My focus now is on expanding Prospect76’s footprint in Nigeria, growing The Fireside Conversation into a movement across different cities, and stepping further into executive leadership,” she explains. “Fifty is not a full stop. It is the most exciting chapter yet.”
For young Nigerians hoping to build successful careers in event planning, Abioye offers practical advice grounded in experience.
“Take the industry seriously from day one,” she advises. “It may look glamorous from the outside, but it requires discipline, professionalism, and resilience.”
She encourages aspiring planners to invest in training, build strong professional networks, and develop sound business management skills.
“Passion alone will not pay vendors,” she says. “Know your numbers, use proper contracts, and understand your value.”
She also sees enormous opportunities within the diaspora wedding market, which she believes remains underserved by professionals who understand both African and international cultures.
“Don’t just plan events,” she says. “Build a legacy.”
Asked to describe her new chapter in three words, her response comes without hesitation:
“Rooted. Expansive. Unstoppable.”
“Rooted because I know who I am and what I stand for. Expansive because fifty is not a ceiling, it is a launchpad. And unstoppable because I have survived every challenge that could have made me quit. The version of me that doubted herself did not make it to fifty. This version did.”
As she steps boldly into a new decade, one thing is certain: Omobola Abioye is not slowing down. She is embracing a future defined by purpose, impact, and the courage to create spaces where others can find their own voices.
For Abioye, turning 50 is not about looking back. It is about moving forward, with confidence, conviction, and a renewed commitment to helping others celebrate life’s most meaningful moments.
