In 2013, Kay Akugba was just another face in the crowd of construction workers, toiling under the sun and climbing towering skyscrapers to make ends meet. His days were spent serving masons, and his nights were often spent sleeping at construction sites at the Eko Atlantic.
The struggle was real, and times were tough. “I could barely have enough to feed on,” Kay recalls. But through it all, one thing kept him going: his dream of getting a university education.
Kay’s journey to higher education was fraught with challenges. He gained admission to the University of Ibadan, but a stolen phone meant he missed the crucial admission letter.
Undeterred, he decided to further his studies in Benin Republic, although his heart remained set on the University of Ibadan. In 2018, his persistence paid off when he gained admission to the University of Ilorin, which he fondly calls his alma mater. Balancing his studies between Ilorin and Benin Republic, he couldn’t pay for both tuition fee and be present at both the same time Kay finally completed his schooling in 2019 in Benin republic and served his country Nigeria with pride.
However, the real journey began after graduation. “The real world starts truly after school,” Kay reflects. He found his passion in real estate, music, and reading—hobbies that soon turned into lucrative ventures. Kay has closed millions in real estate deals and organized his first musical concert, “Bhadboy Kay Live Concert.” By God’s grace, his first book, “Money is a Tool,” is set to launch before his 30th birthday.
Kay attributes his success to the love, prayers, and support of those around him. “All of this wouldn’t have been possible without you all,” he says. As he continues to build a legacy that aims to outlive this generation, Kay remains a testament to the power of perseverance and passion.
