Green Life Pharmaceuticals hosted a children’s essay competition focused on pain management, learning and overall well-being among young Nigerians.
The initiative, titled the S-FIN Champs Essay Competition, is open to children aged eight to 15, attracted entries from schools from Lagos and other areas. Participants were required to write essays of not more than 250 words describing their experience with pain and how effective pain management improved their academic performance.
Executive Director, Chukwudalu Nwosu, said the competition reflects the company’s belief that healthcare goes beyond treating illness to supporting mental, emotional and educational development. He noted that Green Life was built by Nigerians and has continued to operate despite challenges in the pharmaceutical sector, including rising costs and the exit of multinational firms.
Nwosu stressed that encouraging children to read and write is critical to nation-building, adding that a healthy society needs thinkers and leaders alongside medical professionals. He said the essay competition forms part of the company’s CSR focus on education, healthcare access and community development.
General Manager, Sales and Marketing, Mr. Derick Osondu, said the competition was designed to nurture young readers and leaders while raising awareness about pain management. He explained that entries were judged on clarity, grammar, punctuation and relevance to the topic.
“We received hundreds of entries and selected 10 finalists and three winners. The quality of writing for their age range was impressive and showed the impact of early empowerment, Osondu said. He added that the competition was promoted through school visits, emails and online platforms, with participation open to both public and private schools, although entries were higher from private institutions.
The overall winner, Andah Omayioza, a junior secondary school student of Transylvania High School, Lagos, said she discovered the competition online and described the experience as motivating and confidence-boosting.
Other winners emerged from Nazareth School, Festac Town, Lagos. A parent, Mrs. Vivian Nwachukwu, whose two children placed in the competition, said the initiative encouraged her children to participate in more academic competitions and praised Green Life for supporting young talent.
One of the winners expressed excitement at receiving a ₦200,000 cash prize, describing it as her first major award.
Green Life officials noted that the competition is linked to ESPIN, a pain management product that has been used globally for over 40 years and in Nigeria for more than two decades. They said the initiative underscores the company’s view that effective pain control can enhance learning, productivity and quality of life.
The company also disclosed its involvement in healthcare services, health insurance and hospital management, aimed at improving access to affordable healthcare for Nigerians.
Green Life announced plans to make the essay competition a regular event and expand it through collaborations with educational and cultural institutions, with the goal of promoting health awareness, literacy and leadership among young Nigerians.
