Nigeria U-20 women coach Peter Dedevbo has excused Uchenna Kanu and Valeria Awelewa from the 2016 Fifa U20 Women’s World Cup.
With both yet to report to camp due to club engagements, the tactician said he expects no one else in camp following the arrival of Christy Ohiaeriaku, Chiwendu Ihezuo, and Aminat Yakubu, bringing number of players in camp to 28.
He expressed satisfaction with those in camp and assured his side will do well in Papua New Guinea when the tournament kickoffs on November 13.
“I’m no longer expecting any player in camp,” Dedevbo told Goal.
“We have waited for too long and time is no longer on our side. I already have Chinwendu [Ihezuo], Christy [Ohiaeriaku] and Aminat [Yakubu] in camp.
“I’m happy they are here, though I would have loved to have everyone, but at this point, we cannot keep waiting when the tournament is in few weeks.
“The rest players [Kanu and Awelewa] are being held up by their various clubs and I’m okay with the players I currently have and will make do with them.
“We have a crucial competition ahead and hoping to do the country proud against all odds with the quality of players we have here,” he concluded.
Dedevbo will be aiming for a winning start when they face Japan on November 13, 2016, at the Bava Park in Port Moresby.
