The half-time break during Sunday’s FIFA World Cup final is expected to be longer than usual as organisers plan a Super Bowl-style musical performance featuring several international stars.
The reports suggested that the interval could last between 20 and 25 minutes, with the live entertainment segment expected to run for approximately 11 minutes.
The star-studded performance is set to feature Madonna, Shakira and South Korean K-pop sensation BTS. Justin Bieber has also reportedly been added to the line-up, alongside Burna Boy, conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the PS22 Chorus and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
Sources said FIFA is considering an alternative option of maintaining the standard 15-minute half-time interval before staging the musical show. However, the Laws of the Game set by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) stipulate that players should not be given a half-time break exceeding 15 minutes.
A similar arrangement was seen during last year’s Club World Cup final in New Jersey, where performances by Coldplay, J Balvin, Doja Cat, Tems and Emmanuel Kelly extended the half-time break to around 24 minutes.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 closing ceremony is scheduled to begin approximately 90 minutes before kick-off of the final.
