The Association of Great Achievers, Class of 91 (old students), Auchi College, Etsako West Local Government, Edo State, has concluded plans to commission its newly upgraded alma mater school to deliver qualitative education in a conducive environment for both students and staff.

Mr. Dairo Samuel, a member of the association’s Board of Trustees (BoT), said the event comes up on Monday, with Governor Monday Okpebholo, Senator Adam Oshiomole, business moguls as well as key players in the oil and sector in attendance. He attributed the success to the initiative and commitment of its leader, Mr. Peter Omoh Dunia, aka Peter Black: “He committed so much time and resources to ensure its completion.”

Facilities included, ICT/CBT Centre, with 320 computers, to also serve as a digital library, equipped Science Laboratory Block for Physics, Chemistry and Biology, sports complex and a standard synthetic football field, drainage systems, roads and perimetre fencing for the safety and security of the students.

Others are, solar powered borehole with10,000 litres capacity PVC tanks, with steel stanchions and water reticulation with 20KVA lithium hybrid CCTV cameras, a 1,000-capacity events centre, administrative building, multipurpose hall, classrooms, Home Economics Laboratory, upgrading of old Vice Principal’s residence to a cafeteria, sickbay and NYSC member’ lodge.

Principal, Senior Secondary School, Mrs Adam Obetaru-Jato, said: “When I came here in 2024, the school was in shambles. There was no building standing, there was no roof. When it rained we had nowhere to go. The forest was all over and I was scared even as the principal.

“This project coming at this time transforming the place into this glorious institution our hopes are high. We are excited and we are looking forward to the commissioning and praying that God bless all those who contributed to this immense renovation. I say a very big thank you on behalf of myself, the staff and entire students of Auchi College. We are deeply grateful for all they have done.”

The project engineer: “I still remember the first day we visited the place when we were coming to inspect the project at Ogbona. When we got here it was a disaster, there was nothing. Even where they were staying you could see it was dilapidated and water everywhere, especially during the rainy season. It was because of Mr. Dunia’s passion and his sympathy for the school he attended that he organised his school mates to carry out major renovations in the school.

“On the second day we mobilised and commenced work here in the school. Since then, we have been working day and night to make sure this project is completed. One thing I would advise them to do is that when they finish this project they should manage it for some time so it can stabilise even if they are going to hand it over.

Samuel said: “The projects are very strategic, carefully selected and constructed based on national and international specifications to meet the yearnings and aspirations of students and staff, as well as the public within and outside the state that may wish to use the facilities.”

“We all thanked members of the Association of Great Achievers, Class of 91’, Auchi College, led by one of our illustrious sons, Mr. Peter Omoh Dunia, for his visionary leadership and commitment to the growth of his community and the wellbeing of his people,” a community woman leader, Mrs Grace Agatu, stated.
