The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has been urged to invite for questioning one Emmanuel Egogo, also known as Eghogho, shown in a viral video issuing threats against political opponents in the commissioner’s presence.
Some social media users made the call in X posts after the Edo State Police Command issued a statement distancing the commissioner from the incendiary remarks.
In the viral clip that circulated on Friday, the commissioner is seen seated while Egogo threatened to catch and hand over any member of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) caught in the state over to him.
He also called ADC chieftain and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, an “idiot”.
Speaking in Pidgin English, Egogo said, “CP Monday, the name of the governor is Monday and your name is Monday, that’s why you people are working.
“CP, I am loyal to you. When we catch ADC people we will hand them over to you, straight to Abuja…People like that Obi, idiot…”
But in a statement signed by its spokesman, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the Edo State Police Command described Egogo as a “comedian” while emphasising that CP Agbonika never endorsed his comment.
The statement reads in part, “The command wishes to state unequivocally that the comments made in the video by the said Emmanuel Eghogho are entirely those of the individual and do not in any way reflect the views, position, or disposition of the Commissioner of Police or the Edo State Police Command.
“At no point did the Commissioner of Police endorse, adopt, or align himself with the remarks made.
“For the avoidance of doubt, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc remains a thorough professional and a non-partisan officer who is fully committed to the constitutional mandate of the Nigeria Police Force.”
The command said it had earlier called on all political parties, their supporters, and the general public to conduct their political activities peacefully, lawfully, and without hindrance.

The command reiterated that every individual and group is free to pursue their legitimate political interests in accordance with the law.
“However, the command wishes to strongly warn that any act of violence, incitement, thuggery, or any conduct capable of undermining public peace and security will not be tolerated under any guise.
“Anyone found engaging in acts capable of breaching public order will be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law,” the statement further reads.
Reacting, some netizens said Egogo’s remark was capable of causing a breaching of public peace and charged the police commissioner to invite him for questioning.
Francis Imariabe Junior said, “For the records, he is not a comedian but SSA to the Edo State Governor.
“Don’t you think he needs to be called for questioning?”
One @usual_suxpekt wrote, “And he (CP Agbonika) couldn’t say it there or reprimand the person uttering such inciting remarks but instead was smiling sheepishly. It was all shades of unprofessionalism on his part. He seemed to forget what his uniform represents. Here you are ASP Eno, trying hard to put out the fire.”
@EzeokeIsaac said, “He made the inciting statement before your CP but you came to social media to condemn and warn public about such statements, are police not a joker?”
Chukwumezie Udochukwu said, “Your…Commissioner of Police was there when statements were made that threatened people, our democracy and even had the possibility to disrupt public peace but did and said nothing. And you are coming online to explain.”
@OfficialEdoOsasB wrote, “His name is Emmanuel Akpan, also known as Egogo. He has always been a nuisance, but became significantly worse after his appointment as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) by Governor Monday Okpebholo. There are numerous videos of him issuing threats, warning people not to return to Benin, and the most disturbing part is that he is not even from Edo State.
It is a great shame that the Commissioner of Police was present, listening to everything he said, yet failed to reprimand him immediately.
How did we get here? There was a country. His silence showed his is most likely partisan.”
