The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, Abdullahi Beli, has been abducted by suspected gunmen.
He was whisked away from his village, Beli, on Monday evening shortly after returning from a party function in a nearby community.
Witnesses reported that the gunmen invaded the community near Zarewa town late on Monday, shooting sporadically before leaving with the chairman.
Kano State APC Publicity Secretary, Auwalu Sojo, confirmed the abduction to reporters on Tuesday.
“The party chairman was whisked away from his family in Beli village and he is still with his abductors,” Sojo said.
He added that security agencies had deployed a rescue team to the affected village following a formal report of the incident.
As of press time, security agencies in the state had not issued a formal statement on the incident or the broader string of attacks across the state.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has condemned the recent wave of bandit attacks in parts of the state and called for urgent security intervention.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, on Tuesday, Gwarzo expressed sympathy with victims and families in Chiromawa, Garun Mallam LGA, Beli in Rogo LGA, Bebeji, and communities around Gwarzo LGA affected by the violence.

He described the attacks as “a disturbing threat to lives, livelihoods and economic activities,” warning that residents must not be forced to abandon their homes, farms and businesses.
“The protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government and must be treated as an immediate priority,” Gwarzo said.
“Every life lost to banditry is a painful reminder of the urgent need to strengthen our security architecture. We must not allow our people to become prisoners in their own communities.”
The candidate urged security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering, surveillance and targeted operations in vulnerable communities, and called on government to close security gaps that could allow bandits and kidnappers to establish footholds in rural areas.
He commended security personnel for their ongoing efforts and urged them to sustain intelligence-led operations and improve rapid-response mechanisms.
Gwarzo also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and share credible information with security agencies, saying timely intelligence could help prevent attacks and facilitate rescues.
He prayed for the repose of those killed and the safe return of abducted victims, and urged affected communities to remain united and resilient.
