Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, has commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for the ongoing crackdown on cult-related activities across the state, describing the initiative as a critical step towards restoring public order and ensuring the safety of residents.
This commendation was part of a six-point communiqué issued at the end of the Council’s monthly Congress held at the NUJ Secretariat in the GRA area of Benin City on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
Deputy National President of the union, Comrade Abimbola Oyetunde, was present at the congress which recorded a large turnout of members from the 15 affiliated chapels.
In its deliberations, the congress praised the state government’s commitment to curbing cultism, urging the sustenance of the momentum to guarantee lasting peace and sanity in Edo communities.
On the seasonal environmental concerns, the union advised the state government to take proactive steps in preparing for the rainy season, particularly to mitigate the threats of flooding which recently devastated parts of the country.
Residents in flood-prone zones were also urged to remain at alert and, where necessary, consider temporary relocation to safe grounds.
