Delta CP orders probe into robbery allegations against officers

Commissioner of Police in charge of Delta State  Command   Olufemi Abaniwonda has ordered investigation into the robbery allegations against officers of Ebrumede Division, Warri Area Command.

There is a viral video on social  media that captures a man,DJ Young, who accused some policemen of robbing his woman friend of the sum of money meant for her Point of Sale (POS), adding that he was severely beaten for trying to recover the stolen money from the policemen.

DJ Young alleged that the policemen raided the area and as people  were running for their dear lives,his female friend ,also took to her heels.

He alleged further  that  while his friend was running, her business money fell off from her hands and a policeman picked the money , but  refused to release the money worth over N200,000 to her .

He claimed that while he was pushing for the release of the money,the policemen got offended and started beating him and later detained him for one night before granting him bail the net morning.

After his bail from the police station, Young  raised the alarm on social  media, calling  the policemen out while he appealed to police authorities to prevail on the policemen to return the money to his woman.

In a swift reaction to the allegation, the state commissioner of police  condemned the act, and ordered investigation into the matter.

In a statement, Delta state Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) SP Bright Edafe, yesterday ,said,” the Command is aware of a viral video that captures a man, who identified himself as “DJ young” and is being circulated on various social media platforms,alleging misconduct by officers attached to Ebrumede Division, Warri Area Command.

“ The Command, under the leadership of CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, views such allegations with utmost seriousness and unequivocally states that any form of abuse or unprofessional conduct by police officers will not be condoned under any circumstances.

“ To this end, the CP has directed an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident. He encourages any individual or group particularly the victim,DJ young, who appeared in the recorded video to contact the command through the Complaint Response Unit’s dedicated numbers: 09155570008 or 09011112311.

“ CP Abaniwonda stated that the Command remains steadfast in its commitment to justice, transparency, and accountability, and assures the public that no act of misconduct will be tolerated under any guise. He has therefore tasked officers and men to uphold the tenets of professional policing in the discharge of their duties, and also conduct themselves per the law and the established code of conduct of the Force.”
