The Conference of Northern States Civil Society has tasked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to look inward to raise money for the business of governance as against the present culture of borrowing from different bodies for his administration.

While insisting that the rate of borrowing in the present administration is alarming, the conference suggested that the Federal government should raise funds by squeezing the past and present public officials with corruption allegations to recover their looted funds.

Speaking during a press conference on behalf of the Bauchi State Network of Civil Society Organizations, Coalition of NGOs in Kebbi State, and Kogi NGOs Network among others, the Chairman of the Conference, Ibarhim Waiya Ibrahim Yusuf expressed concern over the current state of the judiciary in Nigeria.

He said that the conflicting judgments by various courts of the same jurisdiction have created a sense of confusion and frustration among the citizens fearing that the situation has led to loss of trust and confidence in the judiciary.

“The Conference is appealing to the Judicial Service Commission to take swift action to thoroughly investigate the root causes of the conflicting judgments” he held.

“The integrity and effectiveness of our legal system are essential for maintaining public trust and upholding the rule of law” he stated.

He enjoined President Tinubu not allow his Government to be used in interfering with the judicial processes as such could truncate Nigeria’s democracy while insisting that the entire democratic communities around the world would not forgive Nigeria if its democracy is truncated.

He also feared that interference may lead to chaos, more insecurity and conflicts across the country

The Conference lauded the efforts of the governors like Sokoto, Borno, Kaduna Zamfara, Katsina towards curtailing the insecurity in their states and tasked President Tinubu to develop a Key Performance Indicators (KPI) of not more than six months, by which security agencies should to be assessed.

“We urge the National Security Adviser to coordinate the synergy between the Service Chiefs for optimal combating of insecurity in the country” he stated.
