The Jigawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has thrown its support behind the party’s 2027 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over his proposal to restore a targeted petrol subsidy if elected.
The party’s Deputy Chairman in Jigawa State, Ambassador Nuraddeen Suleiman Jidawa, said the proposal was justified by the economic pressure facing Nigerians, particularly the rising cost of transportation, food and other essential commodities.
Jidawa spoke while canvassing support for the former Vice-President, describing Atiku as a politician with the experience and integrity required to address the country’s economic challenges.
“I know Atiku Abubakar very well. He is a man of integrity, maturity and a true democrat. I am confident that he will fulfil the promises he makes to Nigerians,” he said.
The Jigawa ADC chieftain said Atiku’s proposed subsidy arrangement would differ from the previous system, describing it as a targeted and accountable intervention designed to support domestic fuel production.
According to him, the approach could reduce the burden of high petrol prices on households and businesses while complementing efforts to expand local refining capacity and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.

Jidawa said the current economic situation required policies capable of providing relief to Nigerians while addressing the structural problems affecting the economy.
He also said the ADC was positioning itself as an alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections, with economic recovery, institutional reform and improved living standards among its priorities.
“This is about rescuing the country from economic hardship, rebuilding our institutions and restoring hope to Nigerians,” he said.
The ADC deputy chairman urged Nigerians, particularly voters in Jigawa State, to support Atiku and other candidates of the party at the 2027 polls.
He described the election as an opportunity for voters to choose leaders capable of tackling the country’s economic and governance challenges.
Jidawa also called on ADC members and supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation and remain united as the party takes its campaign message of economic recovery, accountability and democratic governance to voters.
