China: Envoy and Nigerian ambassador-designate meet in Abuja

The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, and the Nigerian Ambassador-Designate to the People’s Republic of China, Abdurahman Bello Dambazau, met in Abuja on Wednesday, where Yu formally congratulated the former Chief of Army Staff on his appointment.

Posting on X, Yu said: “Today I met with Ambassador Abdurahman Bello Dambazau @MYPD2020, who was appointed as Nigerian Ambassador to China. I warmly congratulated him on his new role.”

The Chinese envoy also said under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the China-Nigeria comprehensive strategic partnership has been advancing at a high level.

“This year marks the 55th anniversary of our diplomatic ties. China has rolled out zero-tariff treatment for Nigeria and all African countries with diplomatic relations, opening up major new opportunities for both sides,” Yu stated.

He further said that China looked forward to working closely with Nigeria to implement the important common understandings reached by both leaders, cement political trust, strengthen strategic synergy, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and bring our bilateral relations to a new level.

Also posting on X, Dambazau said: “My courtesy call today took me to the Chinese Embassy, where I was received by the Ambassador and key members of his team. We had excellent interactions on key areas, one of which was the “One China Policy,” an issue the Chinese government takes seriously in its relations with nations.”

The former Minister of Interior also said during the visit, he raised the issue of issuance of visas to Nigerians, especially those interested in going for businesses, saying that “this is an area we must facilitate.”
