Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in India.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry, in a statement issued in Beijing, said the Ministry was arranging the bilateral meeting between President Xi and Prime Minister Modi.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry had announced that, at the invitation of Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi, President Xi would attend the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi from September 12 to 13.
“China and India are arranging for the bilateral meeting between President Xi and Prime Minister Modi. This will be the third year in a row for the two leaders to meet with each other, following their meetings in Kazan and Tianjin,” Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said.
Mao further said China would work with India to act on the strategic guidance of the two leaders, handle bilateral relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective, step up communication, enhance cooperation, properly handle differences, and be friends enjoying good-neighbourliness and partners helping each other succeed.

On China’s expectations from the summit, Mao further noted that BRICS is the key platform for solidarity and cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries.
She also said that, guided by the BRICS Spirit of openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, BRICS countries have been committed to upholding multilateralism, defending fairness and justice, and pursuing common development ever since the grouping was formed.
“Today, BRICS has grown into a real force standing at the forefront of the Global South.
“China sets great store by and actively participates in BRICS cooperation. President Xi will attend and address the upcoming summit, have in-depth exchanges with other leaders on major issues including the current international situation, the development of BRICS mechanisms, and deepening practical cooperation, and put forward China’s important initiatives and propositions, charting the course for the high-quality development of greater BRICS cooperation.
“China is ready to work with fellow BRICS countries for steady and sustained progress in greater BRICS cooperation to contribute to building a community with a shared future for humanity,” Mao stated.
