With barely 48 hours after the abduction of over 300 students from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Papiri community in Agwara local government area of Niger state, the state Governor, Mohammad Umaru Bago has ordered for the immediate shut down of all public Primary and Secondary Schools across the State with immediate effect

Also all tertiary instructions in the Niger North and East Senatorial Districts are affected by the governor’s directives.
The governor gave the order shortly after an expanded state security meeting with heads of all security agencies in the state at the government house on saturday.

According to the” All Missionary, Islamic Schools and Federal Government Colleges should be shut down until further notice”.
The Governor added that “All Tertiary Institutions in Niger North Senatorial District and other vulnerable areas in Niger East Senatorial District are to be closed down as well”.

He however enjoined all heads of security agencies, Civil Society Organisations, the organized labour and religious leaders to focus on the rescue of the children, assuring that the government will continue to protect the lives and property of its citizens.

While describing the incident as sad and unfortunate, he noted that the overall mission is to see how the kidnapped children and other kidnapped victims will be rescued.

In his words “The number of children kidnapped from the St. Mary’s Catholic School has not been ascertained, saying that Department of State Service, Nigeria Police and other security agencies are working round the clock in carrying out headcount of the kidnapped students in order to ascertain the actual figure”.

The governor therefore begged for calm and understanding and prayers for all and sundry for the safe return of the kidnapped students.
