Boulos takes beach clean-up campaign to Epe fishing community 

Boulos Enterprises, the distributors of Suzuki outboard engines in Nigeria, has kept up its Beach Clean-up campaign, as a way of promoting a clean and safe environment in the country.

The firm, in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, last week took the campaign to the fishing community of Epe Local Government Area, Lagos.

The exercise, which took place at Epe Beach, had in attendance Stanley Evans, General Sales and Marketing Manager of Boulos Enterprises, Mr. Austin Obahor, Sales Manager, Boulos Enterprises, Olorunyeni Oladeinde, Chairman, House Committee on Environment, Abimbola Bolaji, Chairman, Lagos House Committee on Agriculture and Agbadanla Ibrahim, Vice Chairman, Epe Local Government.

Mr. Stanley Evans explained that “the Suzuki Clean-up Lagos Beach campaign, which was in its seventh year, is one of the corporate social responsibility efforts of the company, and its sole aim is the demonstration of what can be done with a team method to get publicity and put the cleaner greener message in the mind of the people.

“Besides cleaning the beach, we equally sensitise, educate and encourage the community, even in their local language on the importance of making the cleanliness of their fishing environment a priority.

“We are sure that the community will be encouraged afterwards to take up the initiative and clean their environment well, so as to live a healthy life. And this would go a long way to pass a message to Nigerians because we deserve a clean environment,” he said.

He acknowledged the support the campaign had been receiving from Lagos State government and the officials of the local government where the campaign is taken to.

Olorunyeni Oladeinde, Chairman, House Committee on Environment, expressed the government’s happiness over the good gesture of Boulos in maintaining a clean Lagos. He said it would indeed strengthen the relationship existing between the company, the government, and the fishing communities

Speaking at the event, Agbadanla Ibrahim, Vice Chairman, Epe Local Government, commended the beach clean-up initiative. He said: “Even though the exercise is in line with the Lagos State government policy, Boulos had done well for bringing the exercise to our community which is the fish basket of Lagos State. This, we know, would definitely improve the safety of our beach as well as the living conditions of our fishermen and the fishing communities as a whole.

“We would set up the mechanism to monitor and ensure that this clean-up project continues and yield positive results. We would also see how we can partner with the company on how the Suzuki outboard can be conveniently procured for our fishermen,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Austin Obahor, Sales Manager, Boulos Enterprises, tasked the community to embrace the initiative and made it a continuous exercise around their fishing environment. He announced the company’s readiness to help in launching the 10 new outboard engines procured for the community by the Lagos government.
