celebrates 20 years anniversary at 6th convocation

Bingham University, Karu, Abuja, has challenged its graduates who participated in the 6th convocation ceremony of the school to be Christ Ambassadors and mostly importantly, be global change agents in business, administration, politics, ICT, commerce and other areas of life.
Chairman, Board of Trustees of the School who is also the President of ECWA Church, Dr. Job Ayuba Bagat Mallam, gave the charge in a speech delivered at the 6th convocation ceremony held at the weekend, at the school premises.
He said: “As you step into the next phase of your lives, I challenge you to be Christ Ambassadors, agents of integrity, compassion, and positive change in your communities and the world at large. Remember that you carry the hopes and aspirations of your families, the university, and the nation. Stay spiritually sound, be diligent, and committed to making a positive difference.
“For the parents and guardians, your trust and support have been instrumental in our journey. Together, we can build a brighter future for higher education in Africa and beyond. As ECWA, we will remain committed to providing quality education and nurturing future leaders who will contribute meaningfully to society
“Over these 20 years, Bingham University’s visibility and influence have grown significantly as evidenced by its success in attracting local and international research grants, and establishing collaborations with international bodies. The achievement of launching the first joint postgraduate degrees through the NUC’s articulation programme is a historic milestone, setting a benchmark for higher education institutions across the nation.”
Vice Chancellor of the School, Prof. Haruna Kuje Ayuba, in his remarks, highlighted the great achievements of the university in the last 20 years of establishment, attributing the feat to the collective support and commitment of the past management as well as all staff and students of the University.
He stated that aside being up-to-date in course accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC), recent gave fresh approval to the university to run 8 new undergraduate and 19 postgraduate programmes.
The new undergraduate programmes include B.Sc. Film and Multimedia Studies; B.Sc. Industrial Physics; B. Sc Data Science; B.Sc. Public Relations; B.Sc. Psychology; B.Sc. Journalism and Media Studies: B. Sc Public Administration; and, B. Sc Interior Architecture and Design.
“The postgraduate programmes are PhD Architecture; Ms & PhD Architecture: PGD, MSc & PhD Mathematics; PGD, MSc & PhD Physics; PGD, MSc & PhD Political Science; PGD, MSc & PhD Sociology; PGD, MSc, Entrepreneurship; Masters in Entrepreneurship and Innovation and PGD Environmental Chemistry. This has raised our total undergraduate programmes from 40 to 48 and our PG programmes from 40 to 59.”
In response to the expansion, the Vice Chancellor stated that the school has witnessed massive improvement in infrastructure especially the construction of additional students hostels, laboratories, classes, and other learning facilities.
Regarding the 6th convocation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor disclosed that a total of 1, 576 graduands comprising 1116 undergraduates and 460 postgraduates were cleared to participate in the convocation ceremony.

The Vice Chancellor confirmed that the graduating students successfully completed their academic and non-academic programmes, and were also found worthy in both character and learning to be awarded undergraduate and postgraduate degree in various disciplines for which they were trained in the 2024/2025 academic session.
He described the convocation ceremony as a momentous occasion for the University because it provides an opportunity for the school to celebrate its 20th anniversary having been established in 2005, recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of the graduating students through the award of degrees and prizes.
“It also showcase some of the modest achievements of the University; and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the University through the unveiling of the 20th anniversary commemorative book tilted ‘Bingham University @ 20.
“But inspite of our modest achievements, we are yet to get to the promised land. So, we use this medium to solicit the support of all our stakeholders and esteemed guests to help us in our efforts to raise the standards and increase access to quality education in Nigeria.
“Some of our challenges include but not limited to urgent need for the construction of infrastructure especially additional students’ hostels to meet the growing student population; faculty buildings, laboratories, classrooms, and lecture halls, university guest house and conference Hall, convocation arena and a lostgraduate school.
“Others are the construction of laboratory complex, library and additional classrooms in our Jos campus; completion of the main library complex; expansion of the university health centre; purchase of additional vehicles for field-based programmes; expansion of the chapel to accommodate the growing students’ population; provision of solar streetights on campus; construction of paved roads on campus; expansion of the lCT centre; upgrade ICT facilities and internet connectivity on campuses; amongst others.
“Your support individually and collectively in addressing these challenges will go a long way in helping us to increase access to quality education and improve the learning environment for members of the university community,” he said.
The Special Guest of Honour, Justice James Ogebe (Rtd), in his speech, charged parents, stakeholders and development partners to deepen their collaboration with Bingham University, stressing that such sustained support is vital for the continued growth and development of the institution.
Meanwhile, Galadimma Ado Sharon (4.98) from the Accounting Department emerged the overall best graduating student. Students from other departments also won several prizes for their outstanding academic performance.
