Kebbi gov’s wife empowers Yauri women, youths

•Beneficiaries get start-up tools after one-month vocational training •Commissioner donates N4m for transportation

Wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, has empowered women and youths across the 10 political wards of Yauri Local Government Area with vocational skills and start-up tools to enable them become self-reliant.

The beneficiaries underwent one month of training in shoemaking and bag making, cosmetology, catering, makeup artistry and tailoring before receiving tools to start their businesses.

Speaking at the graduation and empowerment programme, the governor’s wife said she had been informed that the initiative was the first empowerment programme of such magnitude in Yauri and assured those who were not accommodated that another phase would follow.

“For those who were not part of this empowerment, do not worry. We are coming for the second phase, by God’s grace. That is why I want to appeal to you all to continue to support the administration of my husband because, without him, I cannot continue to empower you,” she said.

Hajiya Idris thanked the Emir of Yauri, Dr Zayyanu Abdullahi; Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, and other stakeholders for their support for the administration.

Tafida, who commended the governor’s wife for the initiative, said the state had benefited from the relationship between Governor Nasir Idris and President Bola Tinubu, particularly in the areas of security and infrastructure.

“Some months ago, the governor went to the President when we had insecurity in Yauri Emirate. The President deployed military personnel and Mobile Police officers to Yauri and Bagudo. Since then, we have had security in our area,” he said.

The SSG also cited the coastal highway passing through Yauri as one of the benefits accruing to the state, urging residents to support Tinubu and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC). “There is also the Coastal Highway passing through Yauri. All these benefits are coming to our state because of the good relationship our governor has with Mr President. Therefore, I appeal to all the people of Yauri to vote massively for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates, from the top to the bottom,” Tafida said.

Commissioner for Solid Minerals Resources, Alhaji Garba Hassan Wars, commended the governor’s wife for the programme and donated N4 million to the beneficiaries to cover transportation costs to their respective communities.

Chairman of Yauri Local Government Area, Alhaji Abubakar Shuaibu Yauri, said residents had benefited from several interventions by the governor and his wives, particularly programmes targeted at women and youths.

“We have never had it this good. If one of the governor’s wives is in Yauri, the other will be in Ngaski, just to assist our people.

“I can recall that two months ago, Hajiya Nafisa Idris was in Yauri to empower our youths.

All these are to show you that they truly have human feelings for the people of Yauri. They always carry out empowerment programmes that have a direct impact on the people.

“Under the NANAS Foundation, we have received a lot of empowerment for our women. Some of our married women can now make shoes and do makeup. Today, Her Excellency is here again to empower our women,” he said.

The council chairman urged the beneficiaries to put the start-up tools to productive use, become self-reliant and improve their livelihoods.

Coordinator of the NANAS Foundation, Aminudeen Attahiru Nassarawa, said the beneficiaries were trained in different vocational skills and performed satisfactorily during the programme.
