The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, said it has recorded another major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of members of a notorious armed robbery syndicate responsible for multiple violent crimes within the FCT and its environs.
FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, said the suspects were arrested at Kagini, FCT, and Madalla, Niger State.
Adeh, in a statement, listed the arrested suspects to include: Ibrahim Shaibu a.k.a. Baba Godes, 28 , from Zaria, Kaduna State, Yusuf Salihu, 40 , from Kagini, FCT, Awulu Nuhu a.k.a. Zabi, 25 , from Keita LG, Katsina State and Usman Yerima a.k.a. Dangrugru, 28 , from Jimeta LG, Adamawa State.
Adeh said the operation led to the recovery of two English pistols, 49 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, one Toyota Corolla (2012 model), 10 Android phones, suspected to have been stolen from victims.
According to her, during interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in several violent crimes, including the armed robbery of Umar Y. Gowa at Hillside Estate, Dawaki, and the attack on Volcano Peak Court Hotel, Gwarinpa, where guests were robbed and Bashir Dauda, popularly known as DJ Bash, was shot.
Investigations further revealed that the syndicate had been terrorising residents of Gwarinpa and Dawaki, where they carried out violent attacks on unsuspecting members of the public. This was corroborated by CCTV footage that captured one of their attacks on an innocent resident, further exposing the gang’s ruthless modus operandi.
The suspects, also provided useful information on other gang members currently at large. Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing members of the syndicate.
Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao Adewale, commended the Scorpion Squad and other operatives for their professionalism, courage, and resilience in dismantling the deadly network. He reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property .
He urged the public to remain vigilant and continue to support the police with credible information.
